The International Conference on The 5 decades of Ban Chiang’s Discovery

The Fine Arts Department of Thailand with the Provincial Government of Udon Thani are hosting an international conference on Ban Chiang May 26-28, 2016 in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the discovery of the site. For the schedule of speakers, click here.

Presenters range from the Minister of Culture, the co-director of the Penn/FAD excavations Pisit Charoenwongsa, to some of the scholars who have undertaken the analysis of the site over the years. ISEAA Executive Director will present on Ban Chiang’s Enduring Legacy for Thailand’s Prehistory, with special emphasis on the study of Ban Chiang metals and their contribution to understanding Ban Chiang and Southeast Asia’s place in global prehistory. The journey from fateful fall to world class museum in 50 years is truly a significant story in the annals of global archaeology!
